About Oxfam
People want justice, not handouts. That's why Oxfam campaign for change, as
well as working with poor communities for a better future. Their experience
tells them to pile on the pressure, day in, day out. So they're working at every
level - from local to global - getting poor people heard, challenging decisions
by leaders whenever they see the developing world's interests under fire.
Poverty is preventable.
Oxfam has been 'in the field' fighting poverty for over 60 years. This makes
them one of the most experienced development agencies in the world, and they now
work in more than 70 countries. Sometimes they gain experience in an emergency,
like the Asian Tsunami, and it leads to long-term involvement with communities.
In the Tsunami region, for example, Oxfam are now helping people get back on
their feet - not only by rebuilding their homes, but by supporting people's
efforts to earn a better living.
